Arctic Monkeys.

Just got back from concert number two. It was Awesome. A lot of fun actually. Well the opening act kinda sucked balls. It was like listening to a heavier morrisey but with less talent. Thankfully they only played for 40 mins who ever the hell they were.
The Arctic Monkeys however put on an awesome freaking show. Really. Maybe I just didn't expect to much. Maybe I didn't know what to expect. Maybe I'm just getting better at doing the whole concert scene solo, but I had a lot of fun.
And yes, I did dance. A lot. I'm starting to feel the after effects a little bit. Actually there was a lot of fun to be had at this concert considering it was an all ages show. I normally hate all ages shows. Teens annoy me. What can i say I'm cold hearted. However tonight was fun. I keep saying that a lot. So I guess it must be true. One of the highlights though was the drunken soccer mom dancing beside me. One she danced like a cross between my uncle and Elaine off of Seinfeld. Two is it me or should soccer moms not know anything about this band? She wasn't even with any kids. So i guess she doesn't really qualify as a soccer mom then. Ah hell I'm rambling.
This weekend though has made me realized that I need to go to more concerts. Of bands I like. So that's what I'm going to do. I'm still trying to track down some broken social scene tickets. And I'm gearing up for stars in November. I might even take in a little Ted Leo as a warm up to broken social scene. Either way I'm back having fun. There is no downside to this plan. Only that I may become a scencester (which i hate) but really how far away was i?

New Pornographers.

So I'm back from the concert. It was weird having to go to one by myself. Its not something I normally seek out. But hell the New Pornographers are my band. Friday night made me realize this. I had fun even though I was by myself. Course that could have been the 6 dollar high ball. And for someone who would normally never dance at these things once i heard Myriad Harbor I was pulling out a few moves. Sure people laughed but come on do they really expect me to have rhythm?
I also fell in love with one of the opening acts. Lavender Diamond. Normally this would not be my kinda music. But the lead singer was a cutie and a little crazy. A combination that worked. So apparently flower child's I like. Hippies i still have issues with. Yes there is a difference! The other opening act, Fancy, didn't really strike my fancy (heh see what i did there? I should write for the New Yorker)
I was going to say something else but I've totally forgotten what it was. Damn hippies.
Oh and getting a cab in this city is near impossible. Well at least it is when you're by yourself. I mean I guess I could have walked it really. But at 1:30 in the morning I didn't really feel like it. I mean its not poco so I'm sure i would have been fine. But Im lazy.
Shout outs go out to derek and jowen for letting me crash at there respective places. Mi casa es Su Casa or whatever. Anyway I'm off to do it all over again tomorrow when i go to the arctic monkeys. You best believe I'm pulling out some sweet dance moves for them.

New Pornographers.

So alot has been made about the New Pornographers new album Challengers. You know, when I first heard this album I wasnt really sold on it. At all really. Infact I thought it was very standard. But Ive listened to it a few times now, and I think all the critiscm it recieves is very undeserved.
Carl Newmans song writting is solid and very much improving. It may not have the impact of past albums that the indie "supergroup" has produced. I dont think anything will surpass Mass Romantic personally. I dont mind the direction they're taking this album though.
This album has a lot of solid tracks. Like the title track Challengers, Go Places and Adventures in Solitude. Still they may not be as fondly remembered as Letter from an Occupant, Ballad of a Comeback kid or even Sing Me Spanish Techno.
The strength of this album truly shines with Dan Bejars contributions. I absolutly love Myraid Harbour, Entering White Cecila and the end track the spirit of giving. I really dont know what it is about Dan Bejar thats so captivating. The man could sing the instructions on a Raid bottle and it would still come out amazing. He's like a modern day Dylan. At least to me.
In the end this album is still good. And I'll probably at least listen to it alot before the next New Pornographers album comes out. Which may be a while. I may just have to settle for a Destroyer album. Which is also something Ive got my fingures crossed for. It'll be interesting to see them live again. Im sure its going to be a wicked show as always.
