Wilde.

So I'm reading a lot of Oscar Wilde lately. Mainly because I have to. However, I'm really surprised at how much I actually enjoy his works. I read The Importance of Being Earnest before, long ago. It never really stuck with me. Now though as I finish up The Picture of Dorian Grey and move on to Salome I begin to quickly realize the sheer brilliance of this individual. All his Wildisms like "All art is quite useless" and other jabs at high society in the 19th century had me laughing to myself and probably getting odd looks on the bus.
Perhaps, most fascinating. Was the life this guy lead and the some what tragic end that came of it. I think for the summer a long with the Shakespeare I am going to track down, I'll try and track down some of the Wilde trials, again its supposed to be a fantastic read. Although, Im not sure Im ready to say Wilde is my favorite 19th century writer, I can see he's slowly climbing the ladder. Ah well, I guess that's enough ranting about stuff you don't care about. Im going to go finish that essay. Poker tomorrow. Hooray!

Dog names.

So my Dad informed me last weekend that he's bought a female golden lab. It's about 2 weeks old now so we don't get to pick it up for another four or so. Im not exactly sure but I think mid April. Anyway the point of this post is, we're now in the process of deciding what to name it. Names I have thought of don't really work with a female dog. So this is where you come in. I need name suggestions. And the winner will receive a shiny new can of coke.

Durnken Dunning

Damnt. I've had way to much to drink tonight. I dont know what im going to say on this blog post. Honestly I have nothing to say. had a good time at divs party. Thats newtons fifth law. good time=hellz yeah. and whooo. God New West makes me feel dirty. I thought poco was a craphole. But apparently the majority of B.C. is.
WWWWWWWWWWWHHHHHHHHHHOOOOOOOOOOOO. Limozene riding. Jet Flyin, wheelin dealin kiss stealing son of a gun. God damnt this blog is too much effort. Spin is rooming. I think I will talk now about the plans for the summer. Formula one. Learn to play the bass or the drums. I think im leaning towards the bass a because i could probably findone thats not too expensive and two i think it would be easier. Two. Write the great Canadian novel. I think this could be easily accomplished after April 23rd or soemthing like that. I've already developed plot and characters now i just need time. Three. Open a strip club called the basement. Where strippers are judged on three categories 1. Dancing skill 2. Song Selection (song selection is key) and 3. How much they take into Newtons second law.
Newtons fifth law. I need a monkey. A spider Monkey is perfered. He could be my second in command of this strip club. If you started shit in my club Id send the moneky after your knee caps. He'd be named Alfonzo or Kal-el. I havent quite decided. I think he would be trained in the deadly arts of finger painting. What the hell.
Newtons sixth law is to obey newtons fifth law. Which is to obey Alfonzo. Who will bring a world of pain. Just ask Vikram (random vikram mention number one). I think I need someone to make me a pole for the basement. There in we could have Pool, Darts and a pole for stripper adutions. Not to mention Mario Kart. I think that would be my final exame. I run a tough ship. What can i say.
hmmm. I think now I will discuss Eckphrastic situations. Nah. I just wanted to say Eckphrastic. Now that I have said it, i realize there was no need. Which is newtons eight law of fuck all. me spell bad. Me sleep now. boom boom chicky chicky egg.

2 weeks left.

It's hard to imagine but there's only two weeks left in the semester. Thankfully. Actually this semester hasn't been all bad. Come to think of it, its been better than most.
Like today. Had that presentation. Even though I didn't "kill it" (which for those that know me well, isn't surprising) I did do pretty good. Infact in an unprecedented turn of events, I had about four people come up to me afterwards and tell me they really enjoyed it. The T.A. seemed to think it was pretty interesting too, so I guess that's something. At least its one less thing to worry about.
So I'm thinking I wanna do something this weekend. Dunno what, But I think I'd like to do something that doesn't involve me sitting in my basement. Or movies. At any rate I'll keep you posted.
Oh. A side note, I was watching the MuchMusic VJ Search (why I don't know), but one of the finalist today said that the reason he wants to win is because he idealized Rick the Temp. Which got me thinking, I really hope this guy doesn't win cause a)he seems like a real arrogant dick and b) who the hell idealizes rick the temp?
Anyway I'll end this post by leaving you with a playlist I created strickly for the presentation. Had to get myself in the right frame of mind so here it is. Do with it what you will.

1. AC/DC-Thunderstruck
2. Foo Fighters-Best Of You
3. The Strokes-Last Night
4. Spoon-Jonathan Fisk
5. Modest Mouse-The View
6. Jimi Hendrix-Manic Depression
7. Wolf Parade-Shine a Light
8. Fleetwood Mac-Go your own way
9. The New Pornographers- Letters from an Occupant
10. Journey-Dont Stop Believing

Anyway thats it.

V for Vendetta

So just got back from seeing V for Vendetta. Im trying to decide what to give this movie. I mean, overall it was pretty good. Natalie Portman's performance was good. Im kinda surprised at how much I actually like her acting. I dunno what it is......
Aside from that though, the plot and the overall idea of the movie was well done. The main character V. Was well portrayed. I guess my only criticism is that Alan Moore had nothing to do with it. But that's not much of a criticism as I'm beginning to realize he has very little to do with any work of his that's adapted. Meh. I guess another criticism is it did get a bit "Matrixy" in parts. But again, not much of a complaint.
So I guess for now I'll give this movie a solid thumb up. Maybe once I go back and reread the graphic novel, and watch the movie again on dvd, I can give it a more thorough review, but for now I'll say it was good and I liked it. And you probably will to.

Current Comic: Probably something Alan Moore.

Shakespeare.

Okay. So seeing as how none (or very few) of my friends actually like (or read)Shakespeare I don't know why Im even bothering to talk about this. But today in my Late Shakespeare course we watched a movie called Scotland PA. It's loosely based on Shakespeare's Macbeth. The movie had a pretty decent cast. Christopher Walken being probably the most notable name. It also had the chick from News Radio and Andy Dick. Andy Dick was tolerable for a change. Probably because he had such a minor role. The rest of the cast comprised of recognizable faces, but I couldn't recall what I had seen them in. The soundtrack also comprised of a lot of Bad Company songs. It was actually a really good soundtrack. I should mention of course that this depiction is set in the 70's.
So. What's the point of all this rambling? Well Im not too sure. The movie was good, I'd give it at least a thumb up (maybe one and a half). It was one of the better modern day depictions of Shakespeares work. Unlike say My own Private Idaho staring Keanue Reeves. Which is based on Shakespeares Henry IV.
So yeah. If you're looking for Shakespeare stuff, but don't actually want to read it or listen to it. You should go see Scotland PA. I think I'll end this post by listing my favorite Shakespeare tragedies thus far. This may take awhile....

1. Hamlet 2. Titus Andronicus 3. Macbeth 4. King Lear 5. Coriolanus 6. Antony and Cleopatra 7. Othello 8. Romeo and Juliet 9. Julius Caesar

That was actually easier than I thought. Later...

St. Patricks Day.

Well at first I thought maybe I'll actually do something for it this year. Like go to a bar and drink some green beer. Then I realized that that V for Vendetta movie is out on this day as well, so I thought, maybe i'll go see that. However, it looks as if school will be preventing me from doing all of the above. Yet, that's okay, cause in the end I realized I don't really care about V for Vendetta, or St Patricks Day. Even though I probably should.

....I guess I'll wear my Green Lantern's shirt. But that's as far as I'll go.....God im such a dork....

Asshole customers.

Eight bucks an hour isnt enough to put with your shit anymore. Im sick of getting yelled at because you dont want to come into the store. You should fucking learn to read signs. I dont appreciate being told to fuck off. And i stand by what i said you ass. On a side note at least the other customers in the store were understanding, you should have listen to them, you absolute prick. This isnt worth it anymore. I hate them all.

The Office

Today I decided on a whim to go and buy The Office box set. I guess what really made me want to buy this, was the Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant podcasts. Two of the funniest people alive today. Also on a side note to that, listening to Karl Pilkington sober is a lot like listening to me drunk. It's bizzare, I dont understand a lot of it, but nonetheless hillarious. I urge you all to go and buy the office and download the podcasts. You wont be disappointed.

p.s. Does anyone know where I can get the Extras dvd also staring Ricky Gervais?

Snow.

So its snowing like crazy in poco right now. Which is odd, cause isnt it march? This also means that sfu will be closed. Which sucks cause i need to get some research done. I wonder if its going to be like this all weekend? I seriously hope not, I gotta get shit done.

Trade Deadline

So it looks as if Nonis, knows what he's doing after all. On a trade deadline where I expected nothing of significance to happen, the canucks seemed to manage to add some depth. Which is nice to see, seeing as how it cost us nothing. Acquiring Weinrich, Carney and Brown was a bit of a pleasant surprise. Noronen seems like an interesting back up choice too. All in all I'd say we did okay. Would I have liked to see a big name goalie come here? Sure. Would I have liked to see Bertuzzi sent out. Most definitely. However, I guess its a good thing that we kept our core guys and made the upgrades that we did. I mean it could be worse. We could be Toronto.

Venting.

I really really want to do some venting right now. But I'm hesitant. I don't want to burn bridges, but I don't think anyone that this post would be regarding would ever see this. Some other people on the second half of my venting might. Again this brings up my hesitation. However, something Vikram said to me last week, has really stuck with me. He told me I seemed less "Dunning" or that something changed. I cant remember the exact words, but I think at whatever the case they ring true. Again I really really want to get into this but that might just be the utter frustration talking. Any rate, Im going to sleep on it.

Alice.

I know you'll all make fun of me after this post. But I have to say, Alice in wonderland is quite possibly, now my favorite "children's lit" that I've read thus far. The one great thing about being an English major, is you get to take literature off in a whole different perspective. Especially when working with something like Alice in Wonderland. I guess I took for granted how influential this book has been as im beginning to see the global aspects of it come to the for front.
Getting back to my original point though. Alice in Wonderland can be interpreted in so many different ways (especially ways I never would have thought of) that one begins to see just how awesomely messed up this book is. Take the example of my paper for it, even though I've now hit a wall on trying to connect the political satire of the book to pastoral literature it really doesn't matter, cause I can just take the paper in some other direction (once I think of one).
Finally. The last great thing about Alice, is the adaptations. There also seems to be this whole sub genre to it emerging in popular culture i.e. Gwen Stefani video, Matrix, video games, I could go on but I wont. The best and perhaps most creepy adaptation I have been able to see is this really creepy stop motion movie done by Svankmajer, this thing will give you nightmares. You all should watch it. Alright well this has been perhaps the most self indulgent post I've made in a really long time, and in keeping with that theme, I will now list off my favorite Destroyer's albums, just because I can.
1)Streethawk: A seduction 2) Destroyer's Rubies 3)Your Blues 4)This Night 5) Theif

Things I wasn't able to do tonight.

1. Tolerate the taste of coke. Or rum.
2. Watch the Oscars-Damn you clooney
3. Add numbers correctly-In the span of a min I went from 300 under to 9 over, I hate closing out.
4. Predict the best picture
5. See the Canucks Win

I did however finish both my essay and King Lear. Even though my keyboard is now busted and im on my old piece of shit one. Came third in a poker tourney with people who actually play. Also ran into an R'sider at work. I think I'll stop watching the oscars when Keanue Reeves wins one. Or even gets nominated. Alright thats it.

SFU washrooms are disgusting.

God. For all the "intelligent" people at university, I don't understand why the student body, cant figure out HOW TO FLUSH A GOD DAMN TOILET! Of course it doesn't help matters, when the custodians neglect to do their job, and actually maintain the damn place. Like today. One of the urinals was busted in the AQ, and it was leaking all over the place, and what great idea did they come up with to fix it? Electrical tape across the front. This didn't stop people from actually using the damn thing. Which only added to the disgusting state the washroom was in.
Seriously, the horrific state of the washroom facilities at SFU are mind boggling. Basically there are few washrooms left that I'll actually step foot in, and their numbers are rapidly decreasing. Soon, I'll only be left with the six floor in the AQ. YOU PEOPLE MAKE ME SICK!
